This weekend we did split parenting. Saturday I got to have Jackson all to myself while Chris turkey hunted one last time. Jackson and I had an enjoyable day, half of it spent at my parents and the other half spent outside, with a THREE hour nap in between (3 hours for Jackson and 1 hour for me!). Chris arrived home late Saturday with another turkey; this one seems larger than the one he got last month! Congratulations on the bird!
Sunday it was Chris’ turn to spend the day with Jackson while I played in a four person scramble in Door County as part of a work sponsorship. If there’s anything to be said about my golf game it’s that it is consistent, I suck just as bad this year as I did last year. So, no birdies for me! However, the weather this year was perfect and the views were gorgeous. Last year at this event it rained the entire time and we saw snowflakes. While I was golfing Chris planted tomatoes with Jackson and took him to the wildlife sanctuary to see the animals and feed the geese and ducks. There was one unfortunate mishap when Jackson leaned over the water to throw some food, he fell in. Chris grabbed him by his jacket and yanked his wet self out and was ready to leave. Jackson’s first words were “No go! Jackson feed the ducks!” At least he wasn’t traumatized?
If that event didn’t traumatize him lets hope these others didn’t either; he’s had a rash of incidents lately. Friday he wanted to sit on the little boy potty at school which is awesome but he got a little ambitious and fell in, fully clothed. The teacher was telling me the story and I could barley contain my laughter. He wasn’t scared by the ordeal (he is still asking to get on the potty) but I can imagine what he must have looked like wedged down in the toilet. Tonight has been an ordeal all in itself. He actually fell down the basement stairs tonight thanks to the dogs startling him causing him to jerk backwards. That could have been serious (wood steps w/ concrete floor at the bottom). I’m not sure the image of him log rolling down the stairs will leave my mind anytime soon. Then, about 2 hours after that, he stood on the arm of the couch and fell over the side onto the hardwood floors. That’s a horrid “thud” sound no parent wants to hear. If this is how this boy is going to be he’ll surly break something before kindergarten.
I’ve included a slideshow and video from part of the weekend. His new friend is a stuffed dog my sister (aka “Tanta”) bought for him when he was born. It goes with him everywhere in the house and has to be “put to bed” or propped in the window when we leave. It’s hilarious.
On another note, I'm leaving for Scottsdale with my brother and his family (we're moving them out there) on Thursday and Chris and Jackson are flying out on Sunday. We'll return May 31st and I hope to post a slidshow of our time out there. My goal is that Jackson and I com back as white as when we left, we're both prone to tanning easily, so I've stocked up on sunscreen. We'll see if I can make that goal...I hear it's pretty brutal down there right now.

Somehow or another, Jackson takes after his Aunt Mara...:) Little things like "log rolling" down the stairs will get him ready for 2-a-day football practices.
Looking forward to a Marathon road trip!
Loved the video- has Mara ever told you the story of the applesauce and the beagle?
