I don't remember having this many birthday parties but our child is up to his fourth!
Let me back up first. We documented the entire weekend with photos, as usual, beginning with Friday which was a gorgeous day. We spent all afternoon and evening outside goofing off and taking walks. We soaked it all in since Saturday we were 20 degrees cooler with wind and rain. We spent most of the day shopping and napping (Jackson 3 hrs, me 2.5 hrs and Chris 2 hrs). Not sure what got into all of us but we all needed the mid-day rejuvenation.
Sunday, however, was Mother’s Day and Jackson’s 2nd birthday party with his Grandma, Grandpa and Na-Na. I started the day out bright and early with Jackson waking me up at 5 am. After Starbucks and the paper (thanks Chris!) I went for a 4.6 mi trail run (gift to myself) that really got the day started off on the right foot (no pun intended). Chris and Jackson got me a pearl necklace and Bose ear buds for my iPod. I LOVE both gifts, one for work the other for play! We all set off to meet the family at church where the sermon involved a real baby lamb. All the children were allowed to come up and pet it, Jackson wasn’t so sure of the lamb but I think it’s because he was beat. He was out in my arms 5 minutes after petting the lamb and was out for 3 hours!
While Jackson was out I opened my Mother’s Day gift from my parents and Grandma. I got the quilt that I picked out in 1992 when my Grandparents let my brother, sister and I pick out quilts to have made by them. My quilt pattern was called “The Tree of Life”, it was started by my Grandma, worked on by my Mom and finished by my Mom’s friend. It is a very special quilt to me and it turned out beautifully! My Mom also got her card from me and thanked me for the mani & pedi gift card my brother, sister and Dad got for her. See the photo of my Dad’s handmade card, this is classic Larry.
After Jackson got up he opened his gifts, an experience he’s quickly taking a liking to. He received many more trucks and animals to add to his ever-expanding farm collection, a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD that was watched before bed tonight, summer PJs (from G&G), a bubble machine from his daycare teacher, and a broom from G&G to help clean up the place.
Then it was cake time! Jackson and I had made his cake the night before to be decorated by him today. Of course it was all the reduced sugar cake and frosting, I can’t speak for the decorations, those are pure sugar. Ironically, after all the decorating the boy didn’t want any cake. And when he did finally have some later that night (for dinner!) he was disappointingly clean about the whole process. Chris, keeping with tradition, made and decorated his own cake for Jackson. We’ll be eating cake for awhile in our house! : )
Right before finishing this post I put Jackson to bed and realized how wonderful this Mother’s Day has been. One lesson I’ve learned as a Mom is that it’s the simple things you relish and cherish; and I do.
