Don't Tempt Me

I'll get to the title of this post in a second....

This weekend revolved around a 5-person marathon relay race I did today with some co-workers. The race festivities started Saturday. Chris was in a work golf outing and then went hunting so he was MIA all day. So at the butt-crack of dawn (that's when we get up in our house) Jackson and I headed to Appleton. We stopped at my parent's house so Jackson could enjoy the trucks and Packer clothes my parents bought him (I love the hat, jersey and hooded sweatshirt!). After that visit we headed to the marathon family fest. The event was full of music, firetrucks, a kids race, etc and Jackson was mesmerized by it all. After the family fest we headed off to the marathon health expo to look around and pick up the packets for our team, "The Power Team". After the expo it was off to the mall to get new sunglasses for the race since Mr. Jackson broke mine on Friday (this is the 4th pair he has broken). After the mall we were finally homeward bound where we spent the remainder of the day outside and even managed to clean out the garage and basement. Saturday was exhausting!

Now for Sunday... What a great time! I've never run a relay marathon before but with the great weather and great team we had it was a blast. It's fun to caravan with the team and yell at our team member as he/she runs their leg. We all had our own personal cheering section! To top it off I ran better than I had expected, actually 30 seconds per mile faster than I normally do which shocked the hell out of me. It was an AWESOME high!

Now to the title of this post....I pulled back on running (shin splints) 3-weeks ago and have been miserable. The temptation to run like I used to has been overwhelming and I've had enough. For me, the temptation to run is all consuming, like an addiction. The drug is always there, but today I was fed a high that reaffirmed the addiction. Even when you know it may not be the best thing for you it's hard, and in my case, impossible to quite. Winter is fast approaching....did I mention I'm looking into a treadmill? Stay tuned...

Not that Oscar Wilde would care a thing about my running but this quote from him made me laugh, "The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself."

OK, so I'll run : )

You need to stop running and be LAZY! :)
Congrats on the fast pace! Sounds like it was a lot of fun.
It makes a HUGE difference with the people you run with. We had a great group last year for our 1/2 marathon. It would suck without the support behind you!
