Weekend Fun

This weekend was split into two enjoyable phases: Phase 1, without Jackson and Phase 2, with Jackson. Get ready, this is a long one.....

Phase 1: Thank you to my parents and my cousin Natasha (visiting from Iowa) for taking Jackson overnight Friday and allowing Chris and I to meet up with some of his co-workers for the evening. Saturday morning Chris had to run into work and I was able to slip in a 5-mile run to the YMCA and workout. I left later than I wanted (8 am) so the humidity was up and I dogged it a bit but overall felt good to get it done. Chris picked me up at the Y a little before 10 am and we went to the farmers market where I got my usual, blueberries and sugar snap peas. I finally just bought 10 lbs of the blueberries to freeze instead of dinking around with a quart each week. I make Jackson (and myself!) blueberry pancakes by the dozen and freeze them for quick eating on weekday mornings. Chris was happy with his 2 bunches of beets (yuck). After the market we ran errands and then Chris mowed the lawn while I cleaned & froze some of the blueberries (I'll eat half before they ever make it to the freezer). It's amazing what you get done sans child but it was eerily quiet. End Phase 1 of the weekend.

Phase 2: Saturday around lunch time my parents dropped Jackson off on their way to Lambeau Field (Natasha is a HUGE Packer fan). Jackson had lunch and then a short nap. After the nap we headed to the park. There's nothing like other children, a slide and a swing to enthrall our child for hours. We LOVE going to the park.

A note about the photo with me reading the Parenting magazine. Chris was "in charge" of Jackson and found it hilarious that as I read my "how to be a good parent" magazine Jackson is reaching for my hot tea. It looks bad but Chris really was watching him and no harm was done. Ironically, two weeks ago I had a tea "mishap" that caused a third degree burn on my abdomen. Chris pointed out that the burn looks like a devil's pitch fork. I'm sure Mike will comment on the appropriateness of that. Remember Mike, I was a "perfect" angel growing up....and still am : )

Sunday was all about being out and about. We headed to church at 8:30 am followed by a church budget meeting. Jackson was all over the place at church but at the end of the meeting he fell asleep (of course). After Church Chris and Jackson dropped me off at the Y and headed to Wal-Mart for some odds and ends and picked me up on the way home. Chris picked up some whey protein, not an item usually found on our grocery list (Chris' subtle suggestion that I'm too much of an herbivore). Anyway, Jackson loves the large and light container, it's his new drum. After a brief stay at home we headed to a new park a couple at the park yesterday had suggested we try. It has a splash park which Jackson first fell in love with in San Diego. It was a smash hit. The only incident at the splash park was when Jackson tempted fate by standing over one of the ground sprayers. Wouldn't you know that he timed it just right and the sprayer came on as he stood over it. After a funny face (likely due to the pseudo enema) he promptly stepped off the sprayer. The rest of the day was spent playing at (destroying) home.
