Wow...that pretty much sums up our trip to San Diego. What a beautiful place! Chris' brother (Steve) and his family (Karen, Nick and Zach) were such gracious hosts, they welcomed us and our non-stop, destructive 1-year old with open arms into their gorgeous home. The highlight of our trip was getting to spend time with Steve, Karen and the boys. We hadn't been to see them in a very long time, too long.
Steve and Karen were also our tour guides. While we were there we attended the 4S Ranch 4th of July festival (4S Ranch is the name of the community they live in). We also managed to fit in the San Diego Zoo, shopping (Ann Taylor Loft Sale!), golfing (Chris), running (me), 4th of July festival, San Diego Padres game (Jackson got on the jumbo tron!), and LOTS of swimming in their new (beautiful!) pool and hot tub.
Chris and I each picked a "selfish" thing to do while in San Diego. Chris wanted to golf Torrey Pines. This course was home to the US Open. Tiger won the Open in a historic shoot out just 3-weeks prior so the course was in great shape and is one of the few places to host the US Open that is also open to the public (for a steep price of course!). But this was a dream of Chris' so I said go for it. He really enjoyed himself and the time with his brother. My selfish "thing" was to run the trails of Torrey Pines State Park (at the advice of RunnersWorld.com). It was a 5-mile run along the Pacific Ocean up and down bluffs, hills, etc. It was the hardest and best run of my life, an experience I won't soon forget and hope to enjoy again. Here's what a portion of the park looks like from the air:
Here are some photos from our selfish adventures and a couple of Jackson exploring his new hobby : )
Jackson LOVED the trip despite a rough plane ride to San Diego (don't even get me started on how horrible this was) and the restless sleeping. He especially enjoyed his cousins, Zach and Nick. They were so great with him and he beamed every time they talked to him. Thank God our son loves the water. He probably spent more time in the pool and splash park in the 5 days we were in San Diego than he has his entire life!
All-in-all an unforgettable and enjoyable vacation. Thanks again to the Stokes' for opening your home to us, we had a great time!

Wow, looks like you guys had a wonderful time in SD! I lived there for 2 years and it's by far my favorite place to be. We would love to live there again someday after Rob retires. I'm not familiar with the area you stayed in though, how far from SD was it? I used to be able to walk to the zoo from my house! So glad you had such a great trip but I know how long that flight is and it was brave of you guys to do it with a toddler!
It looks you guys had a great time on vacation! I loved all of the pictures! The one of you running with the big tree in it is so pretty. It almost looks like a running poster or something!
Fun times! That Jackson is really getting grown up- makes things more fun, doesn't it? Sam took his first steps today, so we're in for it too!
Beautiful!! I am glad you had fun! I hope you really took the time to relax. You guys deserve it!!! Kiss my nephew for me!!
~Love, Tanta
