Couldn't Resist the Temptation

Sometimes good judgement is over-ridden by sheer desire....

Today was the Belling Run (10K) in Green Bay (15,000 participants). I was originally going to walk it with Chris and Jackson in the stroller division but those of you who know me are laughing right now because you know if it's a race I'm not going to walk. So Chris and Jackson walked it with a friend of ours, Andy, and his two kids and I ran...against my better judgement, here's why....

Last Wednesday I was easing into the race week with a slow 4 mi run when I "tweaked" my left quad. I did everything I was suppose to do (R.I.C.E) to take care of it but that next night was the basement debacle (see previous post) so I was up and down stairs with loads of water for 2-hours, not the best for a "tweaked" quad I was trying to baby. On Friday it was hurting. The smart thing to do would have been to walk the Bellin, but the race was too tempting and my desire to compete too strong so I ran it. Much to my amazement my quad held up and I finished the 6.2 miles in 55:47 (8:59 min/mi). My best time at the Bellin but it's not the 8:30 min/mi I sustained in the Cellcom Half-Marathon (13.1 mi) two years ago; it'll do though : )

Jackson and Chris did well too. Jackson slept for only 1 mile and never made a peep. Chris and Andy were so frustrated by the slow pace of the people around them they ran the last 3 miles. After the race we found some Popsicles and hit the swings to stretch and decompress. Of course, we then had to treat ourselves to a Starbucks (we're their favorite customers). Nothing like an iced Americano (espresso, coffee and water) to bring down the core temperature. Sorry you couldn't join me Mara, I'll buy when we're in MO in two weeks!

We were going to finish our big day with swimming at my parents but they had already lined up to go to the Flag Day Parade in Appleton. They actually went to the parade route this morning to place their chairs and reserve a spot. Apparently this is the oldest Flag Day Parade in the Nation and over 60,000 people go (who knew!). They invited us to go along but having just finished running with 15,000 people I didn't feel like mingling with another 60,000 so we politely declined and Jackson crashed at home at 5:45pm. I may not be far behind!
