A Big Deal

If you had asked me what 4k was 5 years ago I couldn't have told you. When I was growing up there was no such thing as 4k. Kids went to preschool, not 4k. And the preschools were usually 1/2 days in the basement of a church, not a formal program run through the school district.

So when the 4k graduation ceremony was announced I was skeptical. Who needs a graduation ceremony for preschool? It turns out that apparently I did.

Sometimes I need a frying pan to hit me over the head to realize the important transitions in life. I tend to be looking at the next thing, not living and enjoying the moment. When Jackson walked in with his class in his cap (painted paper plates) and gown (over sized t-shirt) I was suddenly in the moment; one of those catch you off guard, take your breath away moments. In one second I flashed ahead 13 years to his high school graduation. I became extremely proud of him, realizing this was the start of the ever-so-important scholastic journey that will help pave his future.

What started out, to me,  as a formality to end the school year was now a big deal.

Jackson and Grandma before the ceremony.
Thank you Mom for coming!!!

Patiently waiting for the ceremony to begin.

Taking his diploma from the "Y Guy".

Jackson with one of his bestest buddies.
(the ceremony was hosted in one of the YMCA gymnasiums)

Jackson and two of his friends. This was post-bounce house (notice Jackson's red face). Yes, they had a bounce house after the ceremony. It was a great idea, the kids were given cake and then let loose at the Y to play with all of their gymnastics equipment, balls, bounce house, etc. It helps that the father of one of the children graduating is a personal instructor at the YMCA. : )
