A Day in Door County

Saturday Chris hunted all day so Jackson and I decided to head to Door County for the day. First, however, we went to the YMCA early in the morning so I could fit in a run and lifting. He did excellent in their daycare! For those who don't know, there was a period of time, 8 months or so ago, when I would try this and would end up hearing my name called over the loud speaker. Jackson would be inconsolable and the daycare providers didn't know what to do. Hopefully those days are now behind us!

After the YMCA, we headed to the dunes of Door County, along Lake Michigan and the Sturgeon Bay Shipping Canal. Though work I stumbled upon a little, secluded and unknown recreational area along the Lake. It's magnificent! Jackson and I walked and played for a long time. Did I mention how beautiful this area is? Wow!

A couple favorite black and white photos:

After the dunes we took a look at a revetment project along the Sturgeon Bay shipping canal. Lots of big equipment, steel, sand, dirt and water. A little boys dream!

Then it was on to the largest Chinook Salmon release station in the State. Again, a completely secluded and unassuming, yet beautiful place. While the salmon yearling release took place in the spring, the mature fish were trying to get back to where they think is home to spawn again. As you may know, salmon spawn and then die. So, while it was interesting to see the large (living) salmon swimming in such a small stream, it was also a bit morbid as their 'buddies' lay dead in the water next to them. Never-the-less, Jackson was interested and didn't mind the fish carcasses (I'll spare you those photos).

Two salmon in far part of screen (look for fins sticking out of the water)

Finally, it was time for a very late lunch at PC Junction (we had survived on PB sandwiches until now). A favorite place of Jackson's ever since we went there last spring. It didn't disappoint. The only downfall to eating here is he eats SO SLOW. It took him an hour to eat, he was too busy watching the train bring other people their food. After lunch we enjoyed the outdoor play equipment and the resident dog, whom Jackson couldn't say "Hi" to enough.
Train carrying a bubble machine in stead of food (see why it takes so long to eat!)

The buggy we took off-roading (tip: don't do this after you have just lifted legs...OUCH!)

My angel, he was such a wonderful boy the entire day

The B&w's are awesome!!! You really captured some great moments! Even with growing up on the east coast it still seems strange to me to see someone in the sand at the beach/lake with a winter jacket on:) Glad you had fun!

What a great day you two had! I love the photos-you really captured some beautiful scenery and memories all at the same time. Once Ramsay is big enough to explore like this I will have to have you tell me where to take him. PC Junction looks like a little boys dream!
