This is definitely one of the highlights from the summer. Every year a local quarry opens up to the public displaying cranes, dozers, lifts, trucks, backhoes...you name a piece of heavy machinery and it was there! The best part about the event is that it was hands on! There were GIANT sand piles and toys to dig, hidden 'gems' to scavenge for, brick making, off-road tours...and the list goes on and on.
What amazed me, knowing a bit about OSHA requirements, is that we were allowed to ride on giant earth mover trucks, get lifted 50' in the air in a cherry picker, and Jackson was able to help operate a digger. The hands on theme carried throughout the event and really made for an amazing experience for all the children who attended.
The quarry is enormous. The local paper estimated that 15,000 people attended the event; it helps that the day was gorgeous! We stayed for almost 4 hours and Jackson ran and played his heart out for each and every second of those four hours.
As usual, we took a million photos and they tell the story so much better than I do!
