Goodbye & Good Luck Honey!

Friday afternoon Chris left for Colorado to elk hunt with his bow (13% success rate in the unit where he's going). He went out there with a gentleman he works with and they'll be backpacking through Friday, he returns Saturday.

So far (3 whole days), Jackson has done well with Chris gone, at least that's what I perceived to be the case. When he would ask "Where's Daddy?" he never reacted when I responded that Daddy was elk hunting and would be gone for awhile. Then, today, Jackson grabs my cell phone, flips it open and says "Daddy, you come home. Hurry home." I called Chris' cell and had Jackson leave that message for his Dad. The way he said it brought tears to my eyes.

Chris also pulled off a bit of a surprise for me by leaving a very sweet card on the treadmill. He knows me too well : ) Thank you honey, it was beautiful.

Despite Jackson being under the weather Thursday we got out as a family that evening, anticipating Chris' absence. We attended a live children's concert at the Green Bay Botanical Gardens. The fresh air did Jackson and I both good since we had been couped up all day (he stayed home from daycare and me from work).

We brought a picnic, spread out a blanket and enjoyed the show. Anything with music will captivate Jackson and this event was no different. The first hour and a half Jackson did well. After that he began acting like a lunatic, a cue that he's way past tired from the previous night's vomiting marathon. I was a bit worse for wear as well.

Can you tell I was home all day with a sick 2 year old? Pillow anyone?
