Happy 37th Birthday Chris!

Last Thursday Chris celebrated his birthday. Jackson and I let Chris decide what he wanted to do on his birthday evening and he decided to watch an elk hunting DVD while Jackson and I made him double chocolate chip birthday cookies. Last week Chris worked part of his normal work hours while covering for one of his lab technicians while she prepped for her weekend wedding. This led to five days of 14-18 hour work days. Needless-to-say, Chris' birthday celebrating was going to have to wait until the weekend.

My sister and Tony offered to take Jackson for the weekend if we didn't mind sending him down with my parents who already were headed down to spend a weekend with Jen's kids at a hotel. So, my parents and the Bowers swapped kids Friday and Chris and I had the whole weekend to celebrate his birthday and do whatever we wanted...Oh my God!!!

Unfortunately, the birthday weekend started off rocky when, on Friday, I texted Chris to ask if he was feeling OK. I asked because I was really achy and had a horribly sore throat. He texted back that he had the exact same symptoms. We got Jackson to Appleton on Friday evening and when we got home Chris went straight to bed (6 pm), I followed at 7:30 pm. The next day my energy levels were up a bit so I capitalized on the 43 degree WI day and went for a 5-mi run to the YMCA and then worked out. No drug in the world can match the high I felt Saturday after that run!!! Chris wasn't feeling so "high". He was still so run down from the virus and the long days the week before he barely kept his eyes open the entire day. We managed to look at a house we are interested in and then hit a movie, Mall Cop, in the late afternoon. Both endeavors were a big disappointment. Then we headed off to Barnes and Noble for hot drinks to counteract Chris' chills. Sunday was an up-swing day with Chris feeling a little better. I made it to the Y for my Sunday class and a workout but we missed out on Church. We did manage to get a ton of errands done and much needed grocery shopping accomplished Sunday afternoon.

It's now Sunday afternoon and Chris has to work his final third shift cover so he'll head into work soon and I'll wait for the call to head to Appleton and get my little boy. I miss him! My sister said he was a blast for her all weekend. I'll be sure to do a post of his weekend there once I get her photos and the "log" she put together of their time. I'm so lucky to have such a great family. A HUGE THANK YOU to my parents for taking Jackson with them this weekend and to the Bowers Family for taking care of him. While Chris and I didn't get to do all the stuff we had hoped, this weekend allowed for us to recharge. Love to you all!!!

SIDE NOTE: My brother sent me this photo of Rohan with the caption "Rohan Likes Single Malt..."

My boy is Top Shelf! :P
Hope you guys are feeling better! Mara and I have been fighting the same thing, I think it was a little Strep Throat. Gurgling with 1:1 hydrogen peroxide seemed to help. Strep doesn't have catalase so it's sensitive to H2O2. A little microbio for you...:)
