Surprise!

Last Friday I "captured" my husband and surprised him with a weekend away in Door County. It was part of his Father's Day gift and an all around much needed getaway. We had a fantastic and relaxing time. Friday was spent at a spa and then off to dinner along Lake Michigan and finally a sunset walk. We stayed at a place called Cornerstone Suites in Egg Harbor. A great out of the way place with a full kitchen, loft and deck....a great internet find.

Saturday we headed out for a 6:30 am tee-time at The Orchards. I golfed this course for a work outing about a month prior and did so much better this time out (my previous performance was an abysmal failure). Chris did great as usual. His best shot landed him 18" from the hole on a par 3; the second closest he's ever been to a hole-in-one! After golf we headed to breakfast and then up the Bay side of Door County. We ended up shopping and site-seeing our way to the end of the Peninsula and back (see map for an idea of where we were at). We ate at Al Johnson's for lunch Saturday, a Scandinavian inspired restaurant that boasts a sod roof with goats atop grazing away as cameras capture the odd site. We managed to find some great coffee shops and enjoyed some reading and relaxing. The views were unbelievable, Door County never disappoints. Saturday night we ate a late dinner in Fish Creek (CC's restaurant - highly recommend it!) and then took a walk at sunset along the shore as a severe weather front moved in. The sunset was the best I've ever witnessed(see photos).

I laid the plans for this trip over a month ago and the reaction from Chris when he realized we were not headed to my company potluck (a little white lie I had told) was priceless. At first he was confused and then he just kept asking "where are we going". I gave in after a couple minutes watching him squirm. I managed to remember most everything...except shorts for him. I had them in my hand at home but have no idea why I put them back....who needs shorts when it's in the mid 80's? Oops. Swim trunks (which I did remember) served as replacements.

No worries about Jackson, he had a fantastic time at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Friday afternoon was spent outside and at their clubhouse for a condo gathering. Saturday was his first parade at "Cheese Fest" in Little Chute. According to my parents he LOVED the parade and tried so hard to stay awake in his stroller as he nodded off (see photo in slide show). He really got a kick out of the Humane Society's portion of the parade saying "Hi puppies" over and over as they walked by. This was the longest I have been away from Jackson and it was tough but he was in good hands. Thank you to my parents for taking such excellent care of Jackson and for the text messages, photos and videos you sent to let us know he was OK. Technology made being away a little easier.
