The "Wonders" of Pregancy

I thank God every day for the healthy and relatively uneventful pregnancy I have had so far. I'm able to still exercise, keep food down and haven't had to contend with diabetes or high blood pressure. However, Mother Nature still has a sense of humor that will rear itself with all pregnant women in the end no matter how well things are going. For me these "fun" little quirks of my final weeks of pregnancy started out with the notion that "I can't get any bigger!"....Oh, yes I can,....Oh, yes I will and....Oh, yes I have!

My most recent quirk is the baby's own little way of publicly embarrassing me (already!). Because s/he has now fills up whatever space it had left it presses on a nerve that runs down my left leg causing it to spontaneously give out at any given time. So picture this, I'm walking around work and all the sudden I have to grab on for dear life until the baby shifts off the nerve. My co-workers find this amusing as do folks at the grocery store and other retail establishments that have been privy to this spectacle. I'm sure my child will have a good laugh at this when s/he gets older. And then there's the baby's "bladder dancing", as I affectionately call it. I've NEVER ran so fast to the bathroom in all my life only to realize I'll be repeating this drill every half hour for the next month.

I'm not telling any of you mothers anything you likely haven't experienced yourself, but this is all new to me. I'm very thankful for my ability to keep my humor (most of the time); a pregnant women with a sense of humor will have a much easier time rolling with the punches (literally). Despite its quirks, pregnancy has been good. I know I'm going to miss parts of it when the baby is here so for now I'll relish my sprints to the bathroom, rib cage punches and falling spectacles in public places.....and most of all I'll retain my humor so I don't lose my sanity : )
