The upper Midwest was lucky enough to get dumped on last week, ensuring a white Christmas this year. This was the first school snow day for Jackson and since they called off school the night before he and I relished staying up a little later and sleeping in a bit. We ended up with about 11" of snow. It was the perfect consistency for snowman and snow ball making. So I'll bet you can guess what we did after breakfast that morning (see out Frosty masterpiece below). I like snow days too!
The snow also provided us with a great opportunity to catch up with some friends and let our boys tackle the sledding hill at Meadowbrook Park. The second run down for the boys didn't go so well for, for Jackson especially. As you'll see in the photo below his sled veered off a bit and he ended up going over a ramp and flipping over in mid-air. Chris took this photo from the bottom of the hill, perfect timing! His buddy is in on orange sled to the right, he was a bit off kilter as well. The hill is SUPER fast and any wrong moves and you're in for it. When it was time to snowboard we ended up at an adjacent, smaller hill which was MUCH safer.
A closer look at Jackson's preperations for the X Games.
Jackson and his buddy making the trek back up the hill. They both looked like little marshmallows in all their snow gear.
Loving the snowboard again this year. Jackson's friend tried it out too and was a natural. I think Santa may find a way to bring him a snowboard this year...
SNOW DAY! Jackson and I's masterpiece snowman. We used odds and ends from Dad's shop to accessorize. I'm sure we'll find all the items next spring when things melt.
The snow day got the best of him. 7 PM and he was done.
My company was a sponsor of the Oshkosh Celebration of Lights so we received complimentary tickets and headed to Oshkosh Saturday night to take it all in. I have no idea how long this takes to put together but WOW, what a project!
A few pictures of the lights (above and below)
Mid-way through the light tour we stopped at "Santa's Workshop" to see his reindeer and so Jackson could give Santa his Christmas list. This year he only come up with one item, a new sled. I think his Grandma and Grandpa will be ensuring this Christmas wish comes true.
And lastly, we volunteered Friday night at the The Giving Exchange, a program supported through our Church to help other less fortunate this Christmas season. We spent the evening helping tidy up, stocking shelves and shop with people to find items for Christmas. I'm not talking about Wii Systems or iPad's, I'm talking about shopping for things we all consider basic necessities (sheets, clothes, frying pan, etc.). It was a good reminder for Chris and I and a lesson for Jackson as to how truly fortunate we are.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!
