Having Mike & Mara here last week was excellent! It's these visits that remind me how much I miss having them close. Their visits integrate so well with what we do on a day-to-day basis: the kids, the humor and our overall lifestyles. They get my need to work and workout and Chris' need to hunt and relax. We get their need to run and be active as well. It's good to just 'be us' with them and enjoy the time together.
And enjoy we did. During their visit we went out to the Bacon's for a great lunch with Mara's family and my parents. Rohan LOVED the machinery and was warming up to the cows. The weekend he spent at the Bacon's I'm told he became enthralled with them. I think Rohan really like the space to run and play at the farm. On Wednesday Jackson came down with strep throat so Mike and family met up with my parents and hit up an apple orchard. Jackson and I spent the day on the couch and at the doctor. By that evening Jackson was feeling up to the zoo. Rohan liked feeding the giraffe until Grandpa tried to feed him to one. Mike seemed to most enjoy the piggers : )
Thursday I had business in Milwaukee so Mike, Mara and Rohan road down with me and used my car during the day to reminisce around the City and meet up with old friends.
Of course during their week with us fit it some good things for ourselves like healthy cooking (apple crisp and chocolate chip cookies), Jimmy John's (one of Mike & Mara's favorite places) and workout time. We managed a couple of nice runs, YMCA visits, a pilates class (Mara and I) and racquetball (Chris and Mike). We would have hit up Jimmy John's three times but they closed at 9 pm one of the nights we were at the Y late so we only enjoyed JJ's twice.
Before they headed back to AZ we had all the kids (Mike & I should be lumped into this group) at a park and then back to my parent's house in Appleton trying to tire out Ro before the plane ride home. He was asleep less than a minute after we left for the airport but I'm told was awake for the first leg of the trip and had his moments on the second leg. Maybe we had him a little over tired?
To summarize the Syring visit: We miss having Mike and Mara close. We thoroughly enjoyed watching Rohan and Jackson play so well together and the relaxing atmosphere the Syring family brings. No fuss, no entertaining needed, just good times with great people.
