Sunday was a big day, a day we had been waiting for since last year, it was Breakfast on the Farm! What is Breakfast on the Farm? Well, it's breakfast on a farm! It's an annual breakfast held in select counties hosted by a local dairy operation. This was the first year we attended, last year the event fell on a miserably rainy day. While the weather threatened to dampen the day this year, it never opened up. Instead ,we enjoyed the day in sweatshirts and jackets, which is better than umbrellas. The Brickstead Dairy in southern Brown County did an excellent job hosting the thousands of people who came to their farm. There were tours of the milking parlor, open stall barns, calves, machinery and crops. Beyond the typical farm items, they had a petting zoo, inflatable jumpers, miniature pony rides and horse drawn carriage rides.
The concept behind the event is to teach children more about where there food comes from and the generalities of how a farm operates. It really gives children and adults an appreciation for such an operation. As children are more and more removed from their food source, and the land in general, this is an excellent way to reconnect them. We'll be back again.
