This past weekend Jackson and I had the opportunity to fly to Kansas City to see Jackson’s cousin Riley experience her first communion. I don’t know who was more excited Jackson, me or Riley, Abby, Shelley and Jim. After a couple of flights Jackson and I arrived in KC Friday night just in time for Jackson to blow out the candles on his first birthday cake celebrating his second birthday. Jackson open gifts and blew out the candles on his cake (it was too late for cake if we wanted to sleep).
The next day Jackson and the gang went to the riding stables where his cousin Abby takes riding lessons to see the horses up close and personal. Jackson has never petted a horse or even seen one up close until now. After we fed the hoses carrots he got to feed and pet a donkey too. We then traveled to the new Bass Pro shop in Kansas City to see the animals and the new store. I think that this was more for me then anyone, so I was elated!
The first communion was great, Jackson slept, and Riley looked beautiful in her first communion dress. We went over to my brother-in-law Jim’s parent’s house for a dinner reception afterwards. While there Jackson got another birthday cake and more presents! The biggest boy in the world was being spoiled and he loved it.
The next day Jackson got to go on a couple walks and visit two playgrounds to burn off some energy before getting on two more flights home. All in all Jackson and I had a great time visit my sister’s family. The weekend went fast but we cramped a lot in and spent some quality time with family we only get to see once a year. Arriving home and coming through the airport was great when Jackson saw his Mommy. He jumped from his stroller and ran into her arms, priceless. These small things are what make a Dad and a Husband truly happy.

While Jackson and Chris were away I did two things and did them well. The first was clean the house like I was going to eat off every surface (I think I came down with a case of OCD). The second was have some down time. I was ready and due for some R&R and enjoyed every fantastic moment of it. I'm glad Jackson and Chris had some Daddy/Jackson bonding time, but it was great seeing them come home. There's nothing like seeing your son run to you down the airport terminal and throw his arms around you and squeeze. Jackson and I were inseparable the rest of the night.
