After we got past getting Jackson's stitches out on Wednesday the rest of the week and weekend was a steady drizzle of fun and family.
As stated above, Jackson got his stitches out Wednesday evening. It was not the quick procedure I had envisioned. After wrapping him in a blanket to immobilize him, Jackson was pretty mad. So, when the doctor came at his face with tweezers and scissors he wanted no part of any of it. A trip to Culvers helped de-traumatize him.
Thursday I walked into the house and was greeted at the door by Chris, Jackson and a huge bouquet of spring flowers. It really makes the house feel like spring, despite the snow outside.
Friday I had to take a photo of Jackson before leaving to drop him off at daycare (see photo of him in the striped shirt). I was struck by how my “baby” has definitely transformed into a little boy (with the sass to prove it!).
Has spring found Wisconsin yet???? Well, Saturday was gorgeous at least. I was up and out by 8:15 am for a 5.25 mi pavement/trail run. Unfortunately I got a little turned around on the trails and ended up running the bluff/hill side usually used by mountain bikers. So portions of the run I was in the woods on no trail and then up and down bluffs (UGH!). The burning in my lungs and legs when I got home tells me I at least had a good workout (see photo of me lying on driveway).
While Chris did some business stuff, Jackson and I spent the afternoon and evening in Appleton. My parents got out for a bit (tax time!) and Jackson and I hung out with my Grandma. The fun event was finger/foot painting. He really enjoyed painting, especially on his own feet. Grandma got a kick out of his curiosity and orneriness. Chris joined us later in the evening and by the time we left my parent’s driveway for home Jackson was cashed out.
Sunday Jackson was in an excellent mood. See the spinning video for a glimpse at his goofiness. I have no idea where this spinning thing came from but I’m glad I had the camera close by. After letting me punish myself at the Y, Chris and Jackson picked me up and we headed to Appleton for some shopping. We surprised my parents and dropped by, offering them a little time to get out for lunch and errands. We spent time with my Grandma, and Jackson got a kick out of leading her to and from the bathroom and bedroom to her chair. He really loves her and she lights up when he talks to her. I think he’s good therapy for her.
Let’s hope the coming week brings more signs of spring!
