As Mike, Mara and Rohan’s move date to Phoenix nears we are all trying to squeeze in as much face time with them as possible. To help facilitate this, we all organized a weekend in the Dells for both Mike and Mara’s families. At one point Saturday night there were 18 people (including children) there to wish them well and say good-bye.
We all stayed at the Wilderness Resort (phenomenal place). Mike, Mara and Rohan shared a 2-bedroom suite with us and we hosted everyone in our room (full kitchen). The room was awesome and the resort was enormous. I swear we walked miles to and from our fun places at the resort. Then again, it may have just felt that way because of the 30 lbs we were either lugging around or running after!
Our time in the water consisted of visiting two water parks, one with a wave pool and the other with an AWESOME ride called the Hurricane (highly recommend this, it’s worth the wait). We enjoyed the lazy river and children’s play areas too. On dry land we enjoyed the children’s jungle maze and ball area as well as the long, winding halls which made great runways to squeak out any left over energy. Mara and I squeaked out our last bit of energy Sunday morning by running 2-miles and then doing 2-miles worth of sprints (that’s actual sprinting; it doesn’t include our recovery walks). A big thank you to her for doing those sprints with me, it really made for a great workout!
The weekend was bitter sweet on so many levels, for so many people. My bitter sweet moment will be at the end of May, when I have to leave the Syring’s in Phoenix and board a plane back to Green Bay. Right now it doesn’t seem possible that they are moving farther away.
This weekend was awesome, almost indescribable with all the family and fun times we had. However, I’m exhausted from the travel, packing/unpacking and fun. Next weekend my half-marathon will seem like a breeze compared to this!
