Let me wallow for a second....

I need to throw a pity party for myself because one of my favorite addictions, running, has to be curtailed, for awhile anyway. After being unbelievably stupid over the past two months (or more) and running on progressively worsening shin splints my legs have had enough. Last week my left calf began seizing up causing my leg to give out mid-stride so I altered my form to alleviate the pain and continued on my merry way. This has been my strategy for the past couple months, pain shows up in my shins and I fix it by altering my form, numbing the post-run pain with ice or using OTC's to dull the pain. Well, I tried a run yesterday to see how my entire 2-days off had "healed" things, it didn't go so well. You'll see from my Nike widget (right side of the blog) I ran 0.83 mi before the left calf seized up again, bad, and I paid for it for the rest of the day.

Side note - my Nike widget always has my pace at 9:15/mi, which is inaccurate. If anyone knows how to fix this let me know.

So, to be sure I hold true to a promise I made to myself to give up running completely for TWO WEEKS (14-days) I'm posting about it. I figure if I tell everyone then I'll stick to it??? I guess I'll have to replace this love with more of another. Funny thing is, my New Year's resolution is to run a half-marathon on the treadmill by the end of May. That resolution was suppose to keep me motivated this winter. No worries, I'll still make that : )
