As Jackson is beginning to communicate more for things he wants, sees, dislikes, etc. I'm having to become better at figuring out what he's trying to tell me. My recent experience with this was just this past week when the new phrase was "-ite, -ite"... What? For a couple days Jackson would just randomly say "-ite, -ite" and I would grab his water, a toy or whatever was near to figure out what this new phrase meant. There was no common item/toy close each time he said it so I was having a heck of a time deciphering this new phrase; I was clueless. The next evening I was at work late and Chris told me Jackson went to the door to go up to his bedroom and said "-ite", "-ite". OH..."Night, Night"! Man alive, the past two days my poor child was trying to tell me he was tired and wanted to go to bed. Mother of the Year? Likely, not.
The communication trials I have with Jackson remind me of the quote above. I can't come down too hard on myself though. With all the forms of communication we now use (esp. e-mail) it's a wonder we're ever on the same page at work, home, with family, etc.(see quote below).
"The greatest problem in communication is the illusion that it has been accomplished."
~George Bernard Shaw
Now for the weekend update. Chris spent half the weekend helping set up, run and take down at our church picnic. Jackson and I used the time to go to the Farmer's Market (a Saturday must!), run on the trail and spend time with my Mom and Aunt Jan (visiting from Iowa). They drove up from Appleton to go to Church with Jackson and I and then we went out for brunch. Another milestone for Jackson, he started feeding himself with a spoon. He was snacking on cottage cheese today and actually ate out of the bowl with a spoon. Messy? Yes, but worth every piece that didn't make it into his mouth : )

Pity Party Moment: On a not-so-great note I have confirmed I have shin splints. I wasn't convinced (or chose not to believe it) so I did a 4-mi run tonight. It was excruciating. The muscles on each side of my left shin were so tight I could no longer feel my toes flex as I ran. It felt like my toes were permanently flexed up towards my knee. Anyway, running is my stress reliever so say a prayer for Chris and my co-workers until I figure out what to do!

What a great video of Jackson! He is really growing up so fast. I always look forward to all your pictures and videos to keep up. I can't wait to see you both hopefully in a couple of weeks. Too bad not Chris, though. Give both of them hugs from all of us!
Quit stealing Jackson's food!
Love the video of Jack feeding himself & you!
That sucks about the shin splints, I ran a few miles for you today!
ouch Michelle! Sorry about the shin splints. Are you feeling better yet?
Jackson is getting so big! Cottage cheese is one of my least favorite meals to feed toddlers, you find it for days! lol
Any plans to visit Iowa soon? :)
Looks like Mara is getting cruel in her present condition....
Hope the shin-splints heal up quickly! Is that something that comes and goes?? Love the video and other pictures, too. Sam isn't quite there with the self-feeding (with a spoon) yet!
