An Amazing First Couple Days

No one ever said being a new parent was easy and there's a reason why : ) We are really enjoying our new lives as parents but also are experiencing the stresses that come along with it. At his first pediatrician appointment Jackson was down 10 ounces in the two days since he was born. Turns out he has what's referred to as 'tongue tied'. What it means is that the skin under the tongue is attached to the point it will not allow proper movement of the tongue during nursing. Needless to say all the nursing I had done to that point wasn't providing him any nourishment because his tongue action wasn't right...he hadn't eaten since he was born! So they cut that skin under his tongue right there...what a horrible thing to watch as a new parent. We were told to come back tomorrow and see what we could bring his weight up to in 24 hours now that he should be nursing correctly. After a night of no sleep and marathon nursing he went up 3 ounces and we are now out of the danger weight zone. Thank God!

Besides that experience we are truly on cloud nine and enjoying every second with him. We went to the mall on our first outing and then to Starbucks. It's so much fun to talk to strangers about your new baby! Here are some photos (follow the link) of the first couple days of life. Enjoy!
